Weekly Wrap-Up 1/18/2024

Administration 

  • This Week
    • City offices were closed on Monday 1/15 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, on Tuesday due to weather, and were open with modified hours on Wednesday and Thursday due to the weather.
    • I (Nolan Ming) coordinated with several different departments throughout the week in response to the weather situation.
    • Met with Parks & Recreation in regards to their master plan and an upcoming grant opportunity.
    • Worked on new website transition.
  • Next Week
    • Committee and Board of Mayor and Aldermen meetings will be held on Tuesday, 1/23/24.
    • New website training will be held on Monday 1/22/24.
    • Staff meeting will be held on Wednesday, 1/24/24.
    • Will keep working on the website upgrade.

Public Works 

  • This Week
    • Worked on plowing the streets, shoveling/clearing sidewalks, and picking up trash. 
  • Next Week
    • We will do our best to get caught back up on the residential garbage pickup. 

Police 

  • This Week
    • Chris Summers was promoted to Detective.
    • Tristan Shirley was promoted to Narcotics Officer.
    • Spencer Haley was promoted to K-9 Officer.
    • Congratulations to the following officers on their recent promotions. We know you will all do a great job in your new roles.
    • We have noticed and appreciate the reduction of traffic on the roadways. The conditions have made travel difficult for many. We hope for your continued cooperation until roadway conditions improve.
    • As children require additional clothing layers due to weather conditions, please remember that once in a warm car, the removal of these layers may be required for the proper securing in a child safety seat. Please keep this in mind when buckling them in.
    • Work continues with recent traffic accident investigations. Our unmanned aircraft and other technologies are in use with these efforts.
  • Next Week
    • Stay safe and warm during this next forecasted weather event. Keep in mind that road conditions may not improve until temperatures rise. We appreciate your continued assistance in these efforts by reducing unnecessary travel. 

Fire 

  • This Week
    • Everyone is working on their online classes.
    • We've gone on several fire sprinkler system line break calls.
    • Engine 8 repairs were completed and it's now back in service.

    • Deliver Meals on Wheels
    • Finish all online classes.  
Parks & Recreation 

  • This Week
    • Milner Center and Park Theater was closed Monday, 1/15 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
    • Milner Center and Park Theater was closed Tuesday, 1/16 due to inclement weather.
    • Milner Center and Park Theater opened Wednesday, 1/17, and closed at 5 pm.
    • McMinnville Youth Basketball games this Saturday, 1/20 all day.
    • McMinnville Winter Tennis League all day Saturday, 1/20.
  • Next Week
    • Continue to work on the new Parks and Recreation splash page design.
    • Working with TDB on more wayfinding signage.
    • Working with Ben Lomand on wifi at city parks.
    • McMinnville Youth Basketball games Saturday, 1/27 all day.
Park Theater

Community Development 

  • This Week
    • Issued numerous permits
    • Continued working on the new software system. 
    • Worked on strategic plan initiatives.

Water & Wastewater 

  • This Week
    • Snowfall totals recorded at the Water Plant was 5.0 inches.
    • The coldest temperature was -10.6 degrees on Wednesday morning 1/17/2024.
    • Several service calls, including problem calls due to the cold temperatures.
    • Checked all pump stations.
    • Replaced 2-meter sets on Yager Rd.
    • Helped uptown clearing snow from parking lots and at the shop with the skid steer.
    • Ran hours as needed to keep the water tanks at capacity in case of emergency outages.
    • Worked on frozen sludge pump and lines at the wastewater plant.
    • Thanks to everyone for their hard work and dedication in these harsh conditions. (all departments included)
  • Next Week
    • Hopefully, weather conditions improve so the roofing project can get started @ 202 Bell Street.
    • Wash the # 2 basin at the water plant (build-up from leaves).
    • Wash flocculators at the water plant.
    • Reinsulate all chemical lines as needed at the plant.
    • Collect monthly samples required by TDEC.
    • Collect samples from wastewater including Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Sludge.
    • We will be running the sludge press extra hours to catch up from last week.
