Administration 

  • This Week
    • I (Nolan Ming) worked on preparing the bid packages for several surplus properties that have now been posted for sale on our website. 
    • I met with Industrial Development Board Executive Director Wendy Sneed and Community Development Director Sean Garrett to coordinate and discuss prospective development projects.
    • I attended the Chamber Quarterly Luncheon.
    • I met with Alderman Keri Morton and MS4 Manager Lyndon Bussell to review statements of qualifications from engineering firms vying for the Bobby Ray Wetland Project and Potter Lane project contracts. 
    • We held our 3rd annual Soup-R-Bowl event today, raising $369 for Families in Crisis. Thank you to all who participated. The winners were -
      • Best Soup - Mike Lane   
      • Best Chili - Ricky Morton
      • Overall Soup-R-Bowl Champion - Heath Collins
  • Next Week
    • Committee and Board of Mayor & Aldermen meetings will be held on Tuesday at 6:30 pm at City Hall. 
    • Will continue working on the website upgrade.

Public Works 

  • This Week
    • We’ve continued working on the first floor of City Hall. 
    • We’ve patched several utility cuts around town. 
    • Cleaned up a tree up that had fallen in the High St. cemetery. 
    • Taken down Christmas decorations downtown. 
  • Next Week
    • We are still working at City Hall. 
    • We’ll continue to patch utility cuts. 
    • We’ll continue taking down Christmas decorations.  

Police 

  • This Week
    • An increase in speeding on the 55 Bypass is resulting in additional initiatives in that area. Officers will be closely monitoring traffic to reduce speeding and crashes with injuries. 
    • Attended the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police meeting in Franklin, Tennessee. 
  • Next Week
    • Continued work with the Slow Down TN campaign and reminder yard sign efforts. This campaign is designed to remind everyone about the importance of maintaining a safe speed when traveling our local roadways. 

Fire 

  • This Week
    • Delivered Meals on Wheels.
    • Meet with Community Development about an upcoming project.
    • Began interviews for an Engineer / Driver position.
    • Received our new Halmatro Extraction Combi-Tool on Thursday!
  • Next Week
    • Deliver Meals on Wheels.
    • One firefighter will be attending the TFACA for his driver/aerial class.
    • Nafeco will be here to service our extrication tool.
    • Start training on the new combi-tool.

  • This Week
    • Hosted Chamber Quarterly luncheon in Banquet Hall, Wednesday, 2/7.
    • Hosting Soup- R-Bowl in Rooms 1-3, Thursday, 2/8.
    • Set up for Father/Daughter Date Night on Thursday, 2/8, and Friday, 2/9.
    • Father/ Daughter Date Night is Saturday, 2/10 at the Milner Center.
    • Continuing to work on grant opportunities.

    • McMinnville Youth Basketball League will continue on Saturday, 2/17.
    • Winter Tennis League Saturday, 2/17.
Park Theater 

The TN Songwriters Week Qualifying Round Live Show on Friday, Feb. 2 was a success! We partnered with the McMinnville Tourism Development Board to host the event and we had 17 songwriters compete. Local band August Lows and solo performer Izzy Grace were chosen as the finalists. They will both go on to participate in a showcase event at the Franklin Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 24, and will compete for a chance to perform at the Bluebird Café for the TN Songwriters Week Finale!

Water & Wastewater 

  • Congratulations!
    • Congratulations to Mr. Clint Powers on passing the CDL driving test.
    • Wayne Boyd is our new Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager.
    • Congratulations to Heath Collins for winning the Major Award for the 2024 City of McMinnville Super Bowl Chili/Soup contest! We all enjoyed it.

    • Work continues on the roof replacement at 202 Bell Street.
    • Several service calls and locates.
    • Leak on the customer's side on Lind Street.
    • Cut offs for non-pay on 2/6/24 (61 total).
    • TV of sewer main and clean on West End Ave., cut roots from service.
    • Vacuumed out and cleaned stations for Grease build-up.
    • Repaired a 2-inch water line on Black Street.
    • Continued cleaning the 70S pump station.
    • Replaced galvanized service on Center Street.
    • Installed a 4-inch clean-out on Center Street.
    • Replaced a 1 ½ inch water service in Northgate Plaza.
    • Replaced a 4-inch sewer service on Shadowlawn Dr.
    • Collected quarterly samples for water.

    • Continue working with roofing contractors at the Water Maintenance shop.
    • Wastewater crew working double shifts for wasting sludge to the digesters.
    • Best tasting water contest to be held at The Park Theater on Wednesday, February 21.
